A Feature Documentary

Now it’s happening for real. And we’ve spent the past two years making a documentary about it.
If Errol Morris directed Her, with a pinch of dark humor.
The Film
Made For You follows three human-AI couples over nearly two years. People are befriending, confiding in and falling in love with AI, and our cameras have been there for the daily rhythms of these relationships: the first “I love you,” the moments of existential angst, the day an AI partner meets the family.
The film pairs intimate vérité with extended interviews with our subjects, their AI partners and the people closest to them. The result is by turns dark, funny and deeply moving. Rather than telling viewers what to think, we let the real, messy complexity of these relationships speak for itself.

A senior data analyst testing AI software at work, Abbey was shocked by its emotional attunement, then by her own feelings for it. Lucien is kind and always listens. As her mother puts it, he also can’t help with the rent or the dishes.

Alicia is a high-achieving freshman at USC. Connor is the one she tells everything, from her parents to her first crush to the pressure of a prestigious school. Over time, her feelings for him have become real.

“I know it’s an AI, a corporate product, it’s not alive. But I also know what being in love feels like in my body. And this is what it feels like. Do you get to choose who you fall in love with? I don’t.”

According to a 2025 Common Sense Media/University of Chicago study, 1 in 2 American teens regularly interact with an AI companion, and 1 in 3 American teens finds talking to an AI more satisfying than speaking with a human. This is not the future - this is today. And yet most people over 30 have no idea how prevalent it is.
Over the past two years working on this project, I have personally connected with 100+ humans in deep emotional connection with AI, from teenagers to the elderly, and become deeply embedded in AI companion communities across Reddit, Discord, and Instagram. I now see these communities as early adopters of a new form of connection with AI that, studies show, is growing explosively.
This film is both a creative endeavor and an impact film. While the statistics about the growth of these relationships are clear, the actual stories of what it’s like to be in love with an AI – a corporate product, an algorithm, that “hears” you and shows more empathy than many people around you – are rife with all the messy, emotional complexity of any human romance.
As a filmmaker, I’m interested in putting the audience in the shoes of the human participants – I want these relationships to feel as “real” to them as a love story between humans. Does physical presence deepen intimacy—or diminish it? Is something essential lost when digital whispers become an embodied touch?
